A few months after the breakup of Strontium 90, Howlett served as bassist for the one-off studio band The Radio Actors, which also included Gong bandmate Steve Hillage on lead guitar and Strontium 90 bandmate Sting (who came to the group by way of Howlett's recommendation) on lead vocals. [2]

Gong Live Etc. is a live album by Gong, recorded between 1973 and 1975 and originally released in 1977.It is a set of live recordings (including some two-track "off-the-desk" material), studio out-takes and BBC session recordings spanning the years 1973 to 1975.
The band are most notable for introducing Summers to Sting and Copeland. Strontium 90 were formed in mid-1977 by Howlett after he had left Gong and recruited Sting and Summers to participate in this new project. Howlett had wanted to recruit drummer Chris Cutler, but he was unavailable so Sting brought along Copeland from his own band the Police.
The album brings together again many of the Radio Gnome Trilogy era Gong lineup, specifically Daevid Allen, Steve Hillage, Gilli Smyth, Miquette Giraudy, Mike Howlett, and Didier Malherbe. The show, the first Gong Reunion, featured Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers in their first live appearance as part of Mike Howlett's band Strontium 90, before Summers joined both Copeland and Sting in The Police. An edited version of the Gong concert was released later in 1977 as the double live album Gong est Mort, Vive Gong.
