Havelock is a city in Craven County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 20,735 at the 2010 census. [4] The city is home to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, the world's largest Marine Corps air station, [5] and home to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. Havelock is part of the New Bern, NC Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The Neuse River (/ nuːs / NOOSE, Tuscarora: Neyuherú·kęʔkì·nęʔ [ 1 ]) is a river rising in the Piedmont of North Carolina and emptying into Pamlico Sound below New Bern. Its total length is approximately 275 miles (443 km), [ 2 ] making it the longest river entirely contained in North Carolina. The Trent River joins the Neuse at New Bern.
The fort became a site for trading between settlers and Native Americans. The arrival of the Western North Carolina Railway (WNCR) in 1869 stimulated the development of a depot and hotel. [4] In 1871, Sanborn Worthen bought the 2200-acre Old Fort Plantation from George Davidson's grandson and changed its name to Catawba Vale. [6]
