Live at the Checkerboard Lounge, Chicago 1981 is a concert video and live album by American blues musician Muddy Waters and members of the English rock band the Rolling Stones. It was recorded on 22 November 1981 by David Hewitt on the Record Plant Black Truck, mixed by Bob Clearmountain, and released on 10 July 2012. [1]
The Checkerboard Lounge was a blues club on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, established in 1972 at 423 E. 43rd St. by L.C. Thurman and Buddy Guy. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] In 1985, Guy left the partnership and later established Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago's South Loop neighborhood.
Ray Allison, a featured performer in Muddy Waters and The Rolling Stones Live at the Checkerboard Lounge, Chicago 1981, and Daniel Ivankovich, an orthopedic surgeon who once was musical director for Otis Rush, met at the ChicagoFest Blues stage on Navy Pier in the 1980s.
Chess was based at several locations on the south side of Chicago, initially at South Cottage Grove Ave. [2] The most famous was 2120 S. Michigan Avenue, from May 1957 to 1967 [2] immortalized by the Rolling Stones in "2120 South Michigan Avenue", an instrumental recorded there during the group's first U.S. tour in 1964. [3]

The Rolling Stones performed "All Down the Line" on every tour from 1972 to 1981 and have included the song on every tour since the Voodoo Lounge Tour (1994–95). Live performances from June 1972 and November 1981 were included in the concert films Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones [ 6 ] and Let's Spend the Night Together , respectively.
Five by Five is the second EP by the Rolling Stones and was released in 1964. Captured during a prolific spurt of recording activity at Chess Studios in Chicago that June, Five by Five was released that August in the UK shortly after their debut album, The Rolling Stones, had appeared.
