sure , black crappie filets look more translucent than white crappie filets and also seem to have less pink in them to me as well .... black crappie filets look bream like and whites have a tendency to look more open water filet fish to me .... always thought that and mentioned it before , but folks tend to not pay attention to my antics ....just saying
Black nose is a mutant strain of crappie, it has a black stripe that runs from it's nose down it's back, could be some kind of cross breed, but I don't think anyone is sure what causes it. Blacknose Crappie are a naturally occurring strain of Black Crappie, that have a recessive gene ... a genetic marker ... that causes the pigmentation stripe.
