It became the Montgomery Advertiser in 1833. In 1903, Richard F. Hudson Sr., a young Alabama newspaperman, joined the staff of the Advertiser and rose through the ranks of the newspaper. Hudson was central to improving the financial situation of the newspaper, and by 1924 he owned 10% of its stock.
In 1927, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked two years as advertising manager for J. L. Brandeis & Co. department store. During that time, May married Evelyn Ruth Heymann of New York City. She was a 1923 graduate of the Ethical Culture School in New York and a 1927 graduate of Radcliffe College. [8]
