I just watched this movie and found it a real gem. Brilliant without being preachy, it clearly hits upon the senselessness of war. It takes place of the eve of WWI. The men in the lighthouse are dug in, much like a trench. The creatures rushing it are like the men in the enemy trenches who rush the defenders, but their trench is the ocean.
