Boaty McBoatface[2][6] (informally known as Boaty) [1][7] is part of a fleet of six robotic lithium battery -powered autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) of the Autosub Long Range (ALR) class. [1][5] Launched in 2011 the ALRs are owned and operated by the National Oceanography Centre. Boaty is the nick-name for all of the ALRs.
