Saint-Hubert had a population of 78,336 in 2006. The area of the borough is 65.98 km 2 (25.48 sq mi). Longueuil's city hall is now located in Saint-Hubert. Saint-Hubert is located about 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) from downtown Montreal. The borough has a wide array of commercial, industrial and agricultural enterprises.
Longueuil merged on January 1, 2002 with the communities of Boucherville, Brossard, Greenfield Park, LeMoyne, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Saint-Hubert, and Saint-Lambert. These cities became boroughs of the Longueuil megacity. Saint-Lambert and LeMoyne combined to become one borough called Saint-Lambert/LeMoyne.
On January 1, 2002, as part of the 2000–2006 municipal reorganization in Quebec, the provincial government amalgamated the former Longueuil with Boucherville, Brossard, Greenfield Park, LeMoyne, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Saint-Hubert and Saint-Lambert. As with the 1960s, the name Longueuil was chosen for the new city.
The city changed its name to Laflèche on March 5, 1959. It later merged with the city of St. Hubert in October 1971, when its population was about 15,000. Throughout the 1970s, Laflèche was nicknamed petit Saint-Henri de la Rive-Sud (the little Saint-Henri of the South Shore) because its inhabitants were viewed as being rough.

In 2005, St-Hubert voluntarily became the first restaurant chain in Quebec to ban smoking inside its restaurants. This was one year before the province of Quebec made it mandatory.
