The Saleen S281 is a variant introduced between the 4th and 5th generations of Ford Mustang which was produced by the American manufacturer Saleen, Inc. By 2005, Saleen departed from being a company of modifying existing Ford Mustangs as well as various other Ford automobiles, and became an Original equipment manufacturer .
1989 Saleen Mustang SSC. The Saleen brand was established in 1983 originally as "Saleen Autosport" by Steve Saleen, a former professional Formula Atlantic race-car driver. [5] [6] The first Saleens were produced in 1984 when they built three cars as the first production run – a white hatchback, a bright copper-glow five-speed hatchback, [7] and a black hatchback.
Using the Saleen Series VI Supercharger found in the S302-E, the H302-DH has an equivalent horsepower rating of 620 hp (462 kW) as the S302-E, but lacks the CNC Ported aluminum piston heads. Another interesting feature is the use of a SuperShaker scoop attached to the Series IV Supercharger which integrates the scoop and the supercharger together.
For the Mustangs 5th generation the top Saleen model was the S302-Extreme, in which they have replaced the factory 4.6-liter with a Saleen-built V8 engine, increasing the power to almost 620 hp. In 2007, Saleen and retired racer Parnelli Jones made a limited-edition version of the Mustang.

The 1965 Mustang won the Tiffany Gold Medal for excellence in American design, the first automobile ever to do so. The Mustang was on the Car and Driver Ten Best list in 1983, 1987, 1988, 2005, 2006, 2011, and 2016. It won the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in 1974 and 1994.
