Doe Run Inn is a restaurant/inn business two miles southeast of Brandenburg, Kentucky. It is within the Doe Run Creek Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 19, 1978. Squire Boone had discovered the creek, along with John McKinney, in 1778, and named it Doe Run Creek.
The community is built around Doe Valley Lake, a reservoir built on Doe Run, a tributary of the Ohio River. According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the Doe Valley CDP has an area of 4.63 square miles (12.0 km 2 ); 4.06 square miles (10.5 km 2 ) are land, and 0.57 square miles (1.5 km 2 ), or 12.35%, are water.
Established in the late 1950s through the early 1960s. Cardinal Valley was a typical post-war baby-boomer sub-division filled with young families. Most homes were pre-fab (some by National Homes) and originally cost between $10,000-$15,000. Cardinal Valley Elementary School on Mandalay Road was completed in time for the 1962 school year.
