Australian Idol is an Australian talent reality television series that first aired in 2003. As of December 2008, there have been six seasons. During every season, the final round of competition features twelve singers, except for season three when it had thirteen finalists. A total of 73 contestants have reached the finals of their season.

The ninth season of Australian Idol premiered on 29 January 2024. [1] It is the show's second season to air on Seven Network , after the network bought the rights to the series from Network 10 . The grand final was won by Dylan Wright who released his winner's single, "Paper Heart", on 25th March 2024.

Jacob Butler first auditioned for Australian Idol in 2005, but failed to make it past the Top 100 Group Performances. Jacob reached sixth place in the Australian version of The X Factor television series in the same year. Jacob tried out for Idol again at the 2007 auditions, singing "Don't Look Back In Anger" by Oasis.
