The educational institution was established as a primary school in 1897 in the present building of Government College for Women, Karkhana Bazar, Faisalabad. It was promoted to high school and intermediate college in 1905 and 1924, respectively. In 1933, it was elevated to the degree level and postgraduate disciplines were introduced in 1963. [2]

The Government Degree College for Women, Sopore commonly known as Women's College Sopore is a University of Kashmir affiliated autonomous women's degree college located at Sopore in Baramulla district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In 1957, it was upgraded to a degree college. The college was upgraded again into a post-graduate college in 2010, as Master level programs were instated. [2] In December 2012, the College was approved as a full-fledged university. It is the only women's university in Bahawalpur Division, providing female students with standard education. [3]
