Meru National Park is a Kenyan national park located east of Meru, 350 km (220 mi) from Nairobi. Covering an area of 870 km 2 (340 sq mi), it is one best known national parks in Kenya. Rainfall in this area is abundant with 635–762 mm (25.0–30.0 in) in the west of the park and 305–356 mm (12.0–14.0 in) in the east.

The park is home to the lion, African elephant, cheetah, white rhinoceros, and African buffalo and over 400 species of birds. Visitors to the reserve can boat/fish on the Tana and Rojewero rivers. Meru town is a jumping-off place for Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves and Lewa Conservancy, all some distance north of Meru, with Samburu and Buffalo Springs via Isiolo, and Meru National Park, to the northeast of Meru, via Maua in the Nyambene Hills.
The Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserve lie north of the town, while Lewa Downs Reserve in Meru County is located south of Isiolo. The Meru National Park also in adjacent Meru County lies in the North East of the town. Since 1995, the town has been the seat of the Vicariate Apostolic of Isiolo.
