The following is a list of Pennsylvania state high school football championships sanctioned by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) since 1988. [1] This list is organized by the six classes the schools are organized by: Class A (1A), Class AA (2A), Class AAA (3A), Class AAAA (4A), Class AAAAA (5A) and Class AAAAAA (6A).

Champions have been decided every year since then, except for three years during World War II , and in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic when PSAC did not compete.
Historically, Penn State played as an independent from 1887 through 1890, then in 1891 as a member of the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Football Association Penn State won the PIFA championship with a 4–1–0 PIFA record, losing only to Bucknell (Bucknell's record was 3–1–1). The PIFA dissolved prior to the 1892 season.
