Mount Carmel East is a primary care hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Located on a 77-acre (31 ha) campus just outside of the suburb of Reynoldsburg, the hospital serves the east side of Columbus as well as other smaller communities. Mount Carmel East is part of Mount Carmel Health System, which was founded in 1886 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
From March 9 through March 17, and on March 24 and March 28, jurors heard from several Mount Carmel at-the-time-current and former employees—including those who had worked as nurses and hospitalists. On March 15, March 17, March 21, March 24, March 28, and March 29, jurors heard testimony from family members of Husel's alleged victims.
In 1908, Judith Keneipp Orr purchased the house. Orr added the home's Classical Revival elements during repair work after a 1918 fire. Orr's daughter married Dr. Harold A. Elkins, a prominent local physician who ran his practice from the house. After Elkins's death, his daughter Judith occupied the house until her 1991 death. [2]
Mount Carmel currently employs around 2,300 physicians and 9,000 staff in their four hospitals around Columbus. That number will grow once construction of a new hospital in Dublin is completed.
Mount Carmel West was the oldest hospital in the Mount Carmel Health System, founded in 1886 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross. [4] The hospital was situated between Ohio State Route 16 and U.S. Route 62, and accessible from exits on Interstate 70 and Ohio State Route 315. The Mount Carmel College of Nursing is located on hospital grounds. [5]
It was followed by Mount Carmel Grove City in Grove City, Mount Carmel St. Ann's in Westerville, and Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital in New Albany. [2] Mount Carmel also operates the Medicare Advantage plan MediGold. It opened Columbus CyberKnife in 2010 at Mount Carmel St. Ann's. [3] Mount Carmel West operated from 1886 to 2019.
More than 200 medical students and resident physicians in a variety of medical and surgical specialties get their advanced training at Sinai-Grace every year. In addition, nursing students, radiology technicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, pathologists' assistants, and chaplains train at the hospital.
