The name Dyfed is an ancient one, appearing in the Mabinogion with a history predating that work. It is derived from Demetae (the Iron Age tribe that inhabited the area), with this tribal name deriving from a Celtic element related to the Welsh language word defaid (sheep) as well as the Common Brittonic word defod (wealth, property or riches).

Meidrim is a village [1] and community some 8 miles (13 km) west of Carmarthen and 3.3 miles (5.3 km) north of St Clears in Carmarthenshire, Wales.Meidrim (formerly also spelled 'Mydrim') and its twin village of Drefach are situated either side of the Afon Dewi Fawr at the point where this small river is crossed by the B4298 road and meets with the B4299 road.
Carmarthen (UK: / k ər ˈ m ɑːr ð ən /, local: / k ɑːr-/; Welsh: Caerfyrddin [kairˈvərðɪn], 'Merlin's fort' or possibly 'Sea-town fort') is the county town of Carmarthenshire and a community in Wales, lying on the River Towy 8 miles (13 km) north of its estuary in Carmarthen Bay.
The community is bordered by the communities of: Cynwyl Elfed; Bronwydd; Carmarthen; Llangynog; St Clears; Meidrim; and Abernant, all being in Carmarthenshire. In May 2022 the community was transferred from the Cynwyl Elfed electoral ward to the county ward of Trelech. The Trellech ward elects one councillor to Carmarthenshire County Council. [2]
Newcastle Emlyn (Welsh: Castellnewydd Emlyn) is a town and community on the River Teifi, in West Wales.The community is wholly in Carmarthenshire, but the built up area also includes Adpar north of the Teifi, which is in Ceredigion.
The borough of Llanelli and county of Dyfed were both abolished in 1996 and their councils' functions passed to a re-established Carmarthenshire County Council. [21] After the 1974 reforms, the Town Hall served as the town's library until 2002, but has been disused since then.
