Newbury is a market town in West Berkshire, England, in the valley of the River Kennet.It is 26 miles (42 km) south of Oxford, 25 miles (40 km) north of Winchester, 27 miles (43 km) southeast of Swindon and 20 miles (32 km) west of Reading.
A footbridge links all the existing platforms. There is a car park on the north side of the station with access to Hambridge Road. The car park on the south side of the station is on the property of Newbury Racecourse. Freight trains use the existing loop to allow passenger trains to pass them on the main line.
The station is served by local services operated by Great Western Railway between Reading and Basingstoke or Newbury. During weekdays the station is served by two trains an hour on the Basingstoke route, plus one on the Newbury route. In the morning peak there are also a few through trains to Paddington. Trains are less frequent on Sundays.

In the summer of 1913 a large fire destroyed 21 buildings in Newbury, including a church, the public school, the hotel and a number of businesses and residences. Only a change of the wind saved the balance of the town since there was no fire department at that time. In 1958, Newbury gained widespread notoriety after an unpopular farmer disappeared.
