Starting in 1946, Ajax gas engines became a primary product utilized by oil and gas companies. In 1958, the first Ajax integral engine / compressor was manufactured and was specifically designed for field gas gathering applications. It was a DPC 230 and was soon followed by a complete line of Ajax integral engine-compressors from 30-360 horsepower.
Axi-symmetric stall, more commonly known as compressor surge; or pressure surge, is a complete breakdown in compression resulting in a reversal of flow and the violent expulsion of previously compressed air out through the engine intake, due to the compressor's inability to continue working against the already-compressed air behind it.
Principal view of the pumping action of a twin-screw pump with a six-lobe female screw and a five-lobe male screw. A compressor (as opposed to a pump) would be shaped the same way, except that the shape of the lobes would change along the length of the screw, so that the volume of the trapped pockets would get squeezed smaller as they get closer to the exhaust port.
Compression Systems began in 1833 when Charles and Elias Cooper established a foundry in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. "Cooper", as it was known, was licensed to produce the Corliss steam engine in 1869 and entered the production of natural gas internal combustion engines in 1900.
A compressor map is a chart which shows the performance of a turbomachinery compressor. This type of compressor is used in gas turbine engines, for supercharging reciprocating engines and for industrial processes, where it is known as a dynamic compressor. A map is created from compressor rig test results or predicted by a special computer program.
A reciprocating compressor or piston compressor is a positive-displacement compressor that uses pistons driven by a crankshaft to deliver gases at high pressure. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Pressures of up to 5,000 psig are commonly produced by multistage reciprocating compressors.
Mobile compressor station produced by the Ufa Compressor Factory on a KamAZ-63501 chassis. There are three commonly used types of engines that drive the compressors and are known as "prime movers": [3] Gas turbine / Centrifugal Compressor uses a natural gas-fired turbine to turn a centrifugal compressor. The centrifugal compressor is similar to ...
It is a rotating, airfoil-based compressor in which the gas or working fluid principally flows parallel to the axis of rotation, or axially. This differs from other rotating compressors such as centrifugal compressor, axi-centrifugal compressors and mixed-flow compressors where the fluid flow will include a "radial component" through the ...
