[3] [4] One of the most notable Homeric Hymns, the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, tells the story of Persephone's abduction by Hades and Demeter's search for her. When Hades, the King of the Underworld, wished to make Persephone his wife, he abducted her from a field while she was picking flowers, with Zeus' leave.
Persephone is the wife of Hades and the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. Hades only allows her to visit Demeter in the spring and summer and remain in the Underworld in the fall and winter. She is said to be able to "soften" Hades and make him more merciful. Unlike most minor gods, she sides with Olympus during the war against the Titans.
She is the first child of Cronus and Rhea, the elder sister of Hades, Demeter, Poseidon, Hera, and Zeus.
