The Deakin University Student Association (DUSA) is the dominant student representative organisation operating across all campuses and courses. As well as representation, DUSA provides a range of services and benefits to members, and coordinates all other clubs and societies operating on campus.
The diploma courses consist of eight units which are equivalent to the first year of the Deakin University undergraduate degree. This means that once students successfully complete the diploma and meet all requirements, they move into second year of the relevant university degree at Deakin University.
The first two pre-clinical years of the course are based at the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds. Alfred Deakin College (formerly Deakin College) is a residential college at the Waurn Ponds campus of Deakin University.The first of the Deakin colleges, it came to be in 1973 when the Gordon Institute Council (one of the councils responsible for the development of the University [2]) formed a committee to oversee the construction of the original two unit blocks; the Collins and Laird units.
The college offered undergraduate and postgraduate course in aquaculture, humanities, commerce, municipal engineering, and applied science, as well as nursing education and teacher training. [1] In 1990 it merged with Deakin University and became its Warrnambool campus. [1] In October 2019 WIAE celebrated its 50th anniversary. [3] [1] [4]
