The chief justice of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is the head of the judiciary of Sri Lanka and the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. Established in 1801, the chief justice is one of ten Supreme Court justices; the other nine are the puisne justices of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. The post was created in 1801.

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka was created on 18 April 1801 with the "Royal Charter of Justice of 1801 of King George the 3rd establishing the Supreme Courts of the Island of Ceylon" by the British, who controlled most of the island at the time, excluding the inland territory of Kandy.
Previously, she served as acting Chief Justice of Sri Lanka from 10 October to 16 November 2024. [2] She is a puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, prior to which she served as the senior additional solicitor general in the Attorney General's Department. She is the second woman to hold the position.

While serving as Attorney General Jayasuriya defended the sacking of the Prime Minister by the President of Sri Lanka but was over-ruled by the Supreme Court. [5] Jayasuriya controversially requested an extension of the term of office of President Sirisena prior to being made Chief Justice. The Supreme Court overruled that request. [6]

He obtained his Primary and Secondary school education at Trinity College Kandy and continued to Sri Lanka Law College.
