In 1986, the institution was renamed the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. [1] By 1989, the institute had grown to offer a range of residential masters and doctoral programs, as well as external masters and certificate programs. It also oversaw the activities of a Transpersonal Counseling Center and hosted the Spiritual Emergence Network. [1]

The institute offers Masters of Arts, Psy.D., and Ph.D. degrees. Pacifica's academic programs are all subject to review and approval on multiple levels by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), [8] the State of California Board of Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), [9] and U. S. Department of Education (DOE). [10]
Palo Alto University offers two master's degree programs, an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling MFT/LPCC and an M.S. in Psychology. [6] It also offers a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology that has been accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) since 1988.
