South University is a private for-profit university [2] with its main campus and online operations in Savannah, Georgia, United States.Founded in 1899, South University consists of its School of Pharmacy, College of Nursing and Public Health, College of Health Professions, College of Business, College of Theology, and College of Arts and Sciences.
In fall 1974, enrollment included 619 women and 51 men. The school closed in 1975. The facilities were then merged with the adjacent St. John's Cathedral, while its nursing program moved to Ursuline College. [1] A school of the same name in Cleveland was founded by Bishop Louis Rappe in 1854. [2]
The school became Georgia's first state-supported two-year college in 1927. In 1932 South Georgia State College emerged as one of the original 26 institutions of the University System of Georgia. Joseph Meriwether Thrash (1885-1947) joined the faculty in 1907, and later served as the fifth principal of the A & M School.
