The predecessor to today's MDOT was the Michigan State Highway Department (MSHD) that was formed on July 1, 1905 after a constitutional amendment was approved that year. The first activities of the department were to distribute rewards payments to local units of government for road construction and maintenance.
Interstate 375 (I-375) is a north–south auxiliary Interstate Highway in Detroit, Michigan, United States.It is the southernmost leg of the Walter P. Chrysler Freeway and a spur of I-75 into Downtown Detroit, ending at the unsigned Business Spur I-375 (BS I-375), better known as Jefferson Avenue.
It forms the junction of Interstate 94 (I-94, Edsel Ford Freeway), with M-10 (John C. Lodge Freeway). The interchange was completed in 1955, and is the first full freeway-to-freeway interchange in the United States.
A construction project rerouted the roadway near the state park in 1963. The highway's routing was moved out of the park proper, bypassing it to the east. The road surface inside the park was partially obliterated in the process. [10] [11] No further changes to M-203's routing have been made since. [4]
