Adel (/ ˈ eɪ d əl / AY-dəl) is a city in and the county seat of Dallas County, Iowa. [3] It is located along the North Raccoon River . Its population was 6,153 at the time of the 2020 Census .
Adel was platted in 1847 as the county seat for Dallas County. The population of the town expanded in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the central business district expanded because of it. It reached its largest size in 1917 with some redevelopment occurring on the east side of the square after World War II.
Dallas County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 99,678, making it the seventh-most populous county in Iowa. Between 2010 and 2020, it was the fastest growing county in Iowa and one of the fastest growing in the country. [1] Its county seat is Adel, [2] and its largest city is Waukee.
Adel Township covers an area of 36.59 square miles (94.8 km 2) and contains two incorporated settlements: Adel (the county seat) and Dallas Center.According to the USGS, it contains nine cemeteries: Dallas County Farm, Gibson, King, Kinnick, Masonic, Merical, Miller, Oakdale and Odd Fellows.
