The ninth season is a direct continuation of the storyline from Sons of Garmadon, and introduces one of the 16 fictional realms in the Ninjago universe: the Realm of Oni and Dragons.
Lord/Sensei Garmadon (voiced by Mark Oliver, Kai Emmett as a child in season 9, Dean Petriw as a child in season 11) is Lloyd's father, Wu's older brother, Misako's husband, and older son of the First Spinjitzu Master. Garmadon is the main antagonist for the pilot episodes, and a secondary antagonist for the first two seasons.
The character of Lloyd Garmadon was conceived by two screenwriters, Dan and Kevin Hageman, following the pilot season.
