A pineapple pit is a method of growing pineapples in colder climates. One of the earliest examples in Britain has been found by archaeologists at Heligan in Cornwall. [1] The first pineapples known to have been grown in Europe were cultivated in the Netherlands in 1685. [2] None were grown in England until about 1715. [3]
Walipini The interior of a walipini. A walipini is an earth-sheltered cold frame. [1] [2] [3] It derives its name from the Aymaran languages. [4]It is similar in concept to the pineapple pit that was used, as the name implies, to cultivate pineapple and other exotic fruits in Victorian era Britain and in the cold plains of pre-revolution Russia.
Crown sprouting is the ability of a plant to regenerate its shoot system after destruction (usually by fire) by activating dormant vegetative structures to produce regrowth from the root crown (the junction between the root and shoot portions of a plant). [1] These dormant structures take the form of lignotubers or basal epicormic buds.
The crown of a woody plant (tree, shrub, liana) is the branches, leaves, and reproductive structures extending from the trunk or main stems. Shapes of crowns are highly variable. The major types for trees are the excurrent branching habit resulting in conoid shapes and decurrent (deliquescent) branching habit, resulting in round shapes.
High-severity fires will burn into the crowns of the trees and kill most of the dominant vegetation. Crown fires may require support from ground fuels to maintain the fire in the forest canopy (passive crown fires), or the fire may burn in the canopy independently of any ground fuel support (an active crown fire).
This is a list of countries by pineapple production from 2016 to 2022, based on data from the Food and Agriculture Organization Corporate Statistical Database. [1] The estimated total world production for pineapples in 2022 was 29,361,138 metric tonnes , an increase of 2.3% from 28,714,479 tonnes in 2021. [ 1 ]

The average crown spread is the average of the lengths of longest spread from edge to edge across the crown and the longest spread perpendicular to the first cross-section through the central mass of the crown. [1] [2] [3] Crown spread is taken independent of trunk position. Spread should be measured to the tips of the limbs, not to "notches ...
