St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, founded in 1890, is a Catholic church at 4625 Springfield Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Its cornerstone laid in 1907, [ 1 ] the Guastavino tiled dome of the de Sales parish has been an icon in its neighborhood.

At 300 feet tall, the church, with its main spire, is tied in rank as the sixth-tallest church in the United States. In 1968, St. Francis de Sales was named a significant historic building by the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. [3] In 1978 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Louis Brisson. An order of cloistered nuns, the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary, was founded by Francis de Sales at the request of Jane Frances de Chantal in 1610. The establishment of an Oratory at Thonon, where Francis served as the first Provost, was a preparatory step toward carrying out his design, the accomplishment of which was prevented by his death.

In 1894 Archbishop Corrigan tasked Fr. J. L. Hoey, of St. James parish in Milton, with organizing a new parish on the Upper East Side. A temporary chapel was established in a rented house. The following December Bishop Farley laid the cornerstone for the church. It was dedicated by Farley on November 29, 1903.
