Shield of Manitoba May 10, 1905 Granted by the royal warrant of King Edward VII. The design is based on the 1870 Great Seal of Manitoba. It includes a bison, meant to represent Manitoba's Indigenous peoples who used them for both food and clothing. The red cross on white at the top of the shield is Saint George's Cross.
