In 1907, the US federal government created the Upper Lake Rancheria for the tribe on adjacent land. The reservation grew to be 564 acres (2.28 km 2). [2] As part of its Termination and Relocation Policy in the interest of assimilating Natives into mainstream society, the US government passed the California Rancheria Act of 1953.
The Tule River Reservation was established in 1873 by a US Executive Order in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The reservation is the site of Painted Rock , an ancient petroglyph site. Located south of Fresno and north of Bakersfield , [ 12 ] it occupies 55,356 acres (224.02 km 2 ). 566 tribal members live on the reservation. [ 3 ]

Painted Rock is an archaeological and sacred site of the Yokuts of the Tule River Indian Tribe of the Tule River Reservation in Tulare County, California. [1] [2] Painted Rock contains petroglyphs visited and described by Walter James Hoffman in 1882 [3] and by Clinton Hart Merriam in 1903. [4]
