A grandstand is a normally permanent structure for seating spectators, typically at sports stadiums and including both auto racing and horse racing. The grandstand is in essence like a single section of a stadium , but differs from a stadium in that it does not wrap all or most of the way around.
Grandstand launched on 11 October 1958 from Lime Grove Studios with Dimmock as the presenter. Dimmock presented the first two editions and three weeks later, he was replaced by sports commentator David Coleman. [2] In the autumn of 1959, Grandstand was extended by fifteen minutes and would finish at 17:00 every Saturday. [1]
