Baithak Gana (Sarnami: बैठक गाना, بیتک گانا) is a form of music originating in Suriname by the Indian community. Baithak is a social gathering. It is a mix of Hindustani folk music with other Caribbean influences. It is similar to Chutney music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago.

Drupatee has spoken about the blending of Afro and Indo melodies and rhythms in songs such as "Chatnee Soca" and "Hotter than ah Chulha". Chutney is a melody and soca is a beat. Drupatee used an ancient Indian melody called a lawnee with the soca beat in her rendition of "O Tassawalley" and has released a legacy of chutney soca music.
The Suriname Popular Song Festival (commonly called SuriPop) is a biennial song festival that has taken place in Suriname since 1982. The festival is organized by the Foundation for the Promotion of Arts and Culture in Suriname ( Dutch : Stichting ter Bevordering van Kunst en Kultuur in Suriname ).
The instruments are usually two kawina drums, a sakka and a cuatro (or reson). Over the course of time, diverse styles of prisir kawina have emerged all over Suriname. New songs are often created to tell about notable events. The older dance and music forms of banya, tuka and laku were sung in the rhythm of kawina.
Both domestic and foreign songs have topped the Nationale Top 40. The single "Perfume" by Prince Koloni, later winning a "Song of the Year" award, was the #1 song for five weeks in 2015.
