The templates below make use of {{OSM Location map}} to provide a formatted, content-rich map of a particular place in the world. They can provide a stand-alone framed map, or in many cases will successfully integrate with an infobox.
For a map in an infobox for towns, locations, buildings and the like (any infobox that has a map parameter), use the special {{infobox mapframe}} template. At their simplest, they take a coord parameter (use the {{ coord }} template for the value), and a zoom parameter, which you can tweak to suit.
The Mercator 'coords' are converted to (x, y) pixel values to match the map location and zoom level. This switch not only got the existing stock of 5,600 templates back in a working state, but also allowed the implementation of additional graphical items, as well as gaining a more standard use of wikimarkup and wikilinks.
