A project to rebuild the PA 8 interchange began on August 16, 1999, when the off-ramp from PA 28 southbound from PA 28 northbound was closed for a total of $4.7 million. A new ramp was constructed, it was thicker and excavated in a way to lessen the threat of falling rocks. The project was completed on January 11, 2000.
