NDMA was established through the Disaster Management Act enacted by the Government of India on 23 December 2005. Under the act each District Disaster Management Authority are established in each of the districts.District Authority shall be as the district planning, coordinating and implementing body for disaster management and take all measures for the purposes of disaster management in the districts in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the National Authority and the Provincial Authority.
