In India, the 11th Grade is the first year of higher secondary education and is often considered the third year of high school (Higher/Senior Secondary School or Senior High School). It is commonly known as "Class 11" or "Plus 1" (derived from "10+1") and, in some states, as the first year of Junior College (Intermediate or Pre-University Course).
They then take admission to college, which is the name for senior secondary consisting of grade 10 (age 15–16), year 11 and grade 11 (age 16–17), year 12. In the Cambridge system, standard 1 to standard 4 is the junior section, standard 5 to 7 is the junior secondary section, and from standard 8 to 10 is the beginning of high school.
It is usually taken by students during the final two years of Senior secondary school (Grade 10 & 11 (usually ages 15–16)) or external (non-school) candidate. The exam is usually held in December. The exams are held in three mediums Sinhala, Tamil and English.
