Post another pic of the input shaft where it shows the pilot bushing back to the bearing retainer. There's grooves there that give the 1st gear ratio.

    According to the chart below (cell phone views only sideways) you need to go from a blue (20) to a brown (18). You need to verify if these are not original but you will be going smaller. Bigger gear on shaft spins smaller gear faster to speedo. Hope this helps. 18-22 tooth .810 diameter gears must be used with a 1.84 OD speedo drive gear.

    Since I changed gear ratio's I need to change the M20 speedo gear. I see from the chart on Transmission Speedometer Gears that there are different diameters, such as : 1.76 and 1.84 and 1.94 for gear with the same number of teeth. It also mentions you have the match the Drive gear that you have with the correct diameter speedo gear.

    I run a 2.87 first gear in my tko, and a 4.56 rear gear for 13.08 total. I wish I had got the TKO500 stricktly for the 3.27 first gear ratio. Starting line gear ratio is EVERYTHING for a street/strip stickshift car. 67 Camaro ,Nash 5sp crashbox, 6.0 LS. best to date 10.79 @ 129. 3500lb street car.
