Fairmont Pacific Rim is an upscale hotel and condominium building in Vancouver, British Columbia. It stands at 140 m or 44 stories tall and was completed just prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics on February 4, 2010.
The tallest building in Vancouver is the 62-storey, 201 m (659 ft) Living Shangri-La; [5] the building represents the city's efforts to add visual interest into Vancouver's skyline. [6] The recently completed Paradox Hotel Vancouver, also known as Vancouver's Turn, is now the city's second tallest building, at 188 metres (616 ft). [7]
The original thirteen-story tower was first planned by architect Sherwood D. Ford in 1927 and constructed shortly thereafter in 1928. [3] President Dwight D. Eisenhower was a patron at the hotel during the week of September 19, 1954, while visiting several dams in Southeastern Washington and Northeastern Oregon, bringing state-wide attention to the hotel.
The 308-room hotel was designed by Vancouver architect Douglas C. Simpson [4] in a T shape, with a low-rise four-story wing facing the street, and a taller eight-story wing jutting out towards the water. The Bayshore Inn opened on March 27, 1961. [5] The chain became Western International Hotels in 1963. The tower wing was added in 1970.
The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, formerly and still informally called the Hotel Vancouver, is a historic hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia. Located along West Georgia Street the hotel is situated within the city's Financial District, in Downtown Vancouver. The hotel was designed by two architects, John Smith Archibald, and John Schofield.
