The Bureau for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration —Spanish: Negociado para el Manejo de Emergencias y Administración de Desastres— is the agency of the executive branch of the government of Puerto Rico that oversees all emergency activities that occur in Puerto Rico.

The hospital was founded in 1925 in by Dr. Manuel de la Pila Iglesias, a Spaniard from Cádiz, Spain, who had been raised in Ponce. Prior to founding Hospital Dr. Pila, he worked for the municipal government at Ponce's Tricoche Municipal Hospital and at the private Hospital San Lucas both in Ponce.
In 1955, Hospital de Distrito moved to a new and larger campus located on the north side of Puerto Rico Highway 14 (aka, Carretera Central, and today -2015- Avenida Tito Castro) in barrio Machuelo Abajo. Hospital de Distrito operated at Avenida Tito Castro until the early 2000s, when the property was purchased by Grupo Hospital San Lucas. [9]
In 1962 the hospital was established on the grounds of then Centro Medico de Ponce (a.k.a. Hospital de Distrito de Ponce). In 2010, the Legislature of Puerto Rico transferred the lands occupied by Hospital Oncológico Andrés Grillasca Salas to the hospital's corporation free of cost. SITRAS, officially, Sistema Integrado de TRAnsportación del Sur (Southern Integrated Transportation System), is the mass transit system in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. The service was inaugurated on 14 February 2012.
