The Rio Tuba mine is a large nickel mine run by Nickel Asia Corporation in the west of the Philippines in Bataraza, Palawan.Rio Tuba represents one of the largest nickel reserves in the Philippines having an estimated reserve of 60.2 million tonnes (59,200,000 long tons; 66,400,000 short tons) of ore grading 1.27% nickel. The two largest Philippine nickel companies are Nickel Asia Corp. and Global Ferronickel Holdings Inc.; both operate in the Surigao del Norte region. The Tsingshan Holdings Group (Chinese: 青山控股, ching-shan) is a Chinese private company active in the stainless steel and nickel industry. Xiang Guangda in 2017. Ramu NiCo's web site says the company is 'sponsored by' China Metallurgical Group Corporation and that at US$1.4 billion its project is China's largest overseas mining investment. The company says the project has a total reserve of 140 million tons of nickel and will have a mine life of 40 years. [7]
It produces the metals nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum, palladium, gold, silver and selenium. As of 2007 it has the capacity to produce 150,000 metric tons of refined nickel per year, producing 90% of China's output, and is the largest nickel producer in Asia. It produces 400,000 tons of copper per year, the fourth largest in China.
