The Haldwani tehsil has an area of 958.6 square k.m, including both flat and hilly ground, and is in the Indian Standard Time Zone (UTC−5:30). [1] When Haldwani was founded in 1837, most of the early buildings were around Mota Haldu. The city gradually developed northwards towards the present Bazaar and Railway Station.

It lies near the district border with Udham Singh Nagar District, about 33 kilometres southeast of the district capital Nainital, and 13 kilometres southeast of the tehsil capital Haldwani. As of 2011, it had a population of 2,297. [1]
