The University of Allahabad is a Central University located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. It was established on 23 September 1887 by an act of Parliament and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance (INI).
In 2018, following the renaming of Allahabad to Prayagraj, proposals were made to rename the university as well. [5] In 2019 the university was renamed after Rajendra Singh through an ordinance, [ 6 ] which was later that year replaced by the Uttar Pradesh State Universities (Amendment) Act, 2019 .
