The same stream could be saved to a data file on disk (with 512 bytes of unused header space added) as a PICT file. With the change to Mac OS X and discontinuation of QuickDraw, PICT was dropped in favor of Portable Document Format (PDF) as the native metafile format, though PICT support is retained by many applications as it was so widely ...

MTR is an enhanced version of ICMP traceroute available for Unix-like and Windows systems. The various implementations of traceroute all rely on ICMP Time Exceeded (type 11) packets being sent to the source. On Linux, tracepath is a utility similar to traceroute, with the primary difference of not requiring superuser privileges. [12]
My traceroute, originally named Matt's traceroute (MTR), is a computer program that combines the functions of the traceroute and ping programs in one network diagnostic tool. [ 2 ] MTR probes routers on the route path by limiting the number of hops individual packets may traverse, and listening to responses of their expiry.
It has collected and preserved traceroute-style paths to some hundreds of thousands of networks almost daily since 1998. The project included visualization of the Internet data, and the Internet maps were widely disseminated. The technology is now used by Lumeta, a spinoff of Bell Labs, to map corporate and government networks.
Source routing allows easier troubleshooting, improved traceroute, and enables a node to discover all the possible routes to a host. It does not allow a source to directly manage network performance by forcing packets to travel over one path to prevent congestion on another.
