The RDF is officially named the Rapid Deployment Forces of Malaysian Armed Forces (RDF-MAF; Malay: Pasukan Aturgerak Cepat Angkatan Tentera Malaysia — PAC-ATM). [1] This component is a key component for the Malaysian RDF. Currently, there is only the 10th Parachute Brigade inside this component.
Since November 1984, the 8th Ranger has been assigned to Task Force 083, which was later re-designated as the 10th Parachute Brigade (10 PARA BDE). This affiliation makes the 8th Ranger the most senior unit within the elite brigade and the first conventional infantry unit in the Malaysian Army to transition into an airborne role. [1] [2]
Following the elevation of the 10th Parachute Brigade's status as a hybrid airborne-marine unit in 2022 during the 89th Army Day (Malay: Hari Tentera Darat), [3] [4] the course now concludes at the beach of Besar Island in Malacca. The 18 RAMD (Para), like the other airborne infantry in the 10th Parachute Brigade, is expected to be able to deploy at any time and to any place by air, land, or sea. Since 10 October 1994, 9 RAMD has been a part of the 10th Parachute Brigade.
