On 3 April 2024, at 07:58:11 NST (23:58:11 UTC on 2 April), a M w 7.4 earthquake struck 15 km (9.3 mi) [5] south of Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan. At least 19 people were killed and over 1,100 were injured in the earthquake. It is the strongest earthquake in Taiwan since the 1999 Jiji earthquake, [6] with three aftershocks above M w 6.0.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck offshore of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands 240 km (150 mi) east southeast of South Georgia on August 21 at a depth of 12.0 km (7.5 mi). The shock had a maximum intensity of I (Not felt). [150] This was an aftershock of the 7.4 quake.
