Sandford C. Faulkner was born in Georgetown, Kentucky, on March 3, 1803 to Nicholas and Sally (née Fletcher) Faulkner. [1] He was responsible in large part for the story forming the basis of the "Arkansas Traveler," [2] [3] which was the official song of Arkansas from 1949 to 1963, and the official state historic song of Arkansas since 1987. Charles Shiels Wainwright (December 31, 1826 – September 13, 1907) was a produce farmer in the state of New York and an artillery officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He played an important role in the defense of Cemetery Hill during the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg , where his artillery helped repel a Confederate attack.

The 5th United States Colored Cavalry was a regiment of the United States Army organized as one of the units of the United States Colored Troops during the American Civil War.
