During the evening hours of April 27, 2014, a large and destructive EF4 tornado moved through several communities northwest of Little Rock, Arkansas.The tornado, which was part of a larger outbreak of severe weather across the central and southern United States, devastated the towns of Paron, Mayflower, Lake Conway, Vilonia, and El Paso, killing sixteen people and injuring over one hundred more.
Overall, the tornado remained on the ground for an hour, from 7:06 p.m. to 8:02 p.m. (0006 – 0102 UTC), and traveled along a 41.3 miles (66.5 km) path. Sixteen people lost their lives due to the tornado while 193 others were injured. [21] The 16 fatalities made this the deadliest in Arkansas since an F4 tornado killed 35 on May 15, 1968.

The first and most destructive of the tornadoes was a violent F4 tornado touched down on the eastern bank of the Red River in Bossier City, Louisiana, at approximately 1:50 a.m. CST. The tornado produced a path up to .5 miles (0.8 km) wide and nearly 4 miles (6.4 km) long through the heart of Bossier City.
Later, it produced a very large EF3 tornado near Decatur, Arkansas, which became the largest tornado ever recorded in Arkansas.
