Newark is an enclave, surrounded by the city of Fremont. The three cities of Newark, Fremont, and Union City make up the Tri-City Area. Newark's population was 47,529 at the 2020 census [8] making it the third largest city in the US named Newark after Newark, New Jersey, and Newark, Ohio.
NewPark Mall is a 1,161,681 square feet (107,923.7 m 2) super-regional mall in Newark, California. Opened in August 1980, it currently houses 119 stores. It serves the Tri-City area (Fremont, Newark and Union City). The Mall underwent extensive renovations that were completed in early 2017.

State Route 84 (SR 84) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that consists of two unconnected segments, one in the San Francisco Bay Area and the other primarily in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta area.
The DESFBNWR is one of six wildlife refuges in the San Francisco Bay Area. The others are: Antioch Dunes , Ellicott Slough , Farallon , Marin Islands , and San Pablo Bay . It was renamed in 1995 in recognition of Congressman Don Edwards and his efforts to protect sensitive wetlands in south San Francisco Bay.
The East Bay area's original inhabitants were the Ohlone Native American people. These native people were hunters and gatherers whose skills enabled them to live well off the land's natural bounty, where a large staple of their diet consisted of acorns. A great number of Ohlone native descendants still live in the Newark/Fremont/Union City area.
In 2005, Newark Days celebrated Newark's 50th anniversary with a 1950s theme and the return of Arknew, a kangaroo that was Newark's old town mascot. The festival was held virtually in 2020 due to concerns around COVID-19. The 2021 celebration was cancelled just weeks before the event due to increasing infection numbers from the COVID Delta variant.
