The Briar Cliff Chargers football team represents Briar Cliff University in college football in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Chargers are members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), fielding its team in the GPAC since 2003.
Briar Cliff University is situated on a scenic hilltop on the outskirts of Sioux City. Sioux City is located on the Missouri River; directly across the river are the states of South Dakota and Nebraska. [4] The 75-acre campus includes four residence halls, as well as other buildings used for academic, athletic, and student support purposes. [5]
Tom Rethman is an American college football coach. He is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Buena Vista University, positions he has held since 2024. [1] He served as the head football coach at Briar Cliff University from 2008 to 2016, compiling a record of 21–78.

Butler played on teams which produced the best four-year record in school history (91–24), reaching the NAIA tournament all four years which were also the first four national tournaments in program history. He helped the Cliff to one Sweet 16 and one Elite 8. He was inducted into the Briar Cliff Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. [1]
