Titled after the 1996 studio album, as well as the song of the same name, it is based on the life and death of the American rapper Tupac Shakur. The film stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac, with Kat Graham, Lauren Cohan, Hill Harper, and Danai Gurira.
All Eyez on Me was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and solidified Shakur's status as a rap superstar. Following his death in September 1996, several posthumous albums were released, starting with The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory , released under the alias Makaveli in November 1996.
